Imagine waking up one morning finding police officers at your front door, telling you that they are at your house to round up your firearms.
No, it’s not because you did anything wrong or were convicted in court of anything they tell you.
Rather, it’s because a judge issued a ‘red flag’ gun seizure order against you — requiring law enforcement to seize every gun you have.
The reason?
Someone complained about you.
Maybe they saw a picture of you holding a gun on your Facebook page, or maybe they saw the Wyoming Gun Owners bumper sticker in the back of your rear windshield.
Or perhaps an angry ex-spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend just wants to make your life as difficult as possible, and knows that just by saying, ‘you’re dangerous,’ your life will be turned upside down.
You see, this is the reality of ‘red flag gun seizure’ legislation, the same kind of legislation that Governor Mead is urging action on during the 2019 legislature.
In fact, insiders tell us that he’s quietly urging legislators on the interim committees to start working on so-called “Red Flag” legislation during the summer recess!
This is the same legislation that pro-gun lawmakers in Colorado blocked in the Senate just days ago, yet this radical proposal is gaining ground in Wyoming.
As you’ll see, this petition demands that your lawmakers oppose this dangerous legislation at all points in the legislative process.
You see, ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation gets even worse.
That’s because the court proceedings wherein these orders will be issued are usually done via ex-parte hearings.
Ex-parte hearings are hearings where only one side is present, meaning you would have no idea what’s going on until the police are at your door with a seizure order!
You would have no chance to have your lawyer present.
No ability to confront the witnesses.
No chance to rebut their evidence.
No chance to testify in your own defense.
Simply put: you would have more due process rights in traffic court than you would where your Constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms are concerned.
I’m sure you’ll agree that this proposal is absolutely unconstitutional.
But that’s not stopping states like Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota and others from trying to ram it into law!
In the states that have stopped ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures,’ it was grassroots gun owners that made all the difference.
The truth is, when Governor Mead REFUSED to sign the Stand-Your-Ground Bill you and I muscled through the state legislature, I knew something like this would happen.
Last year, Governor Mead VETOED legislation, which would have ended “Gun Free Zones” in government buildings around our state.
The message Governor Mead intended to send to the State Legislature — and gun owners all over the state — with that veto was clear:
“Don’t pass pro-gun bills. I don’t want them. I don’t support them.”
Of course, you and I didn’t listen and passed Stand-Your-Ground.
Governor Mead allowed it to become law without his signature — primarily because he understood vetoing TWO pro-gun bills in back to back years would KILL any future political ambitions.
But he’s mad you and I had the audacity to stand up to him.
And now — with only months left in office — he wants PAYBACK.
This behind-the-scenes action to advance ‘Red Flag Gun Seizure’ legislation is a part of that.
Once your guns are seized, you’ll be spending weeks and thousands of dollars in court in attorneys fees to try and get them back.
And if some anti-gun judge or prosecutor just doesn’t like you, your goose could be cooked.
Of course, gun-grabbers argue it gives law enforcement a critical tool they need to stop mass shootings . . .
But the truth is, under current law, those who tell others of their intent to kill can be arrested for making threats if law enforcement is ever informed.
Those who are exhibiting “warning signs” that they may be plotting violence, can — at minimum — be interviewed by law enforcement who can move to arrest the person if they deem it necessary.
I can also tell you that no gun control law on the books will ever do a lick of good if law enforcement fails to do its job — like we saw at Parkland.
That’s why we have to stop this scheme NOW before gun-grabbers and members of BOTH parties try to ram it into law.

With this being an election year, lawmakers are forced to listen more than usual.

But it’s essential that we keep the momentum rolling here during the ‘off season,’ which, with Wyoming’s busy interim committee process, isn’t really an off season at all.
