‘Budget Sessions’ always go fast in Cheyenne.

But this year things are moving at warp speed. In fact, the regular 2024 legislative session will come to an end this week!

Here’s a brief recap of where we are on SF-109.

This bill would ban ‘Red Flag Gun Seizures’ here in Wyoming by requiring that you be convicted of a violent felony crime before a judge could order the seizure of your firearms.

Last week we ran SF-109 through:

The full Senate;

The House Travel Committee;

The first of three votes in the House.

But the House has more RINOs in it today than I’ve ever seen. And the vote was closer than I would have liked. I expect an amendment fight on the second vote, which happens today!

It’s imperative that you email your State Representative immediately, urging him to oppose all amendments today!

But there’s another bill you need to know about. And that’s HB-125. This legislation would get rid of most ‘Gun Free Zones’ here in Wyoming. Better yet, this is based on WYGO legislation.

You see, we passed this bill in 2017.

But Governor Matt Mead vetoed it, as a favor to the Wyoming Association of Municipalities. This year may be our chance to finish this fight once and for all!

To be clear, HB-125 is not as strong as we would like.

It removes ‘Gun Free Zones’ for gun owners with a concealed carry permit (that’s where the bill is soft) in places like:

— The State Capitol.

— Governmental meetings.

— College events that don’t sell alcohol.

There’s more. While the bill allows schools to restrict their employees from carrying (like I said, this doesn’t go far enough) on school property, they cannot restrict anyone else!

And schools that want to allow teachers to carry may do so. There is a training requirement, but that can be waived for any school in a rural part of the state. That’s almost all schools!

HB-125 has cleared the House and is headed to the Senate where I expect it to be well received.

But RINOs could file amendments at any time. So please send a second PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL to your State Senator now!
